It's that time again - class registration for the next quarter! This quarter seemed to have flown right by me. It's not quite over yet (two more weeks before the Finals) but I'm already looking ahead to what's next. The budget cuts have really put a kink in my original plans. Some classes I wanted to take got cancelled, others got delayed and now there's a likelihood that classes for the Summer quarter will be slim pickings. Still I'm feeling very fortunate that I managed to slip in before it became nearly impossible to get into any class due to the high student to class ratio.
This quarter I made the executive decision to take a lighter load, and it had worked out very well. I was able to spend more time on projects so I could do a better job, and also time with my family and other aspects of my life that are important. I plan to continue to do this in the Spring quarter. There are many classes I would like to take but I'm going to focus only on the essentials. Here are the ones that I definitely will register for:
Drawing for Animation: Layout and Visual Development
Basic Techniques of Animation: 3D Media
Intermediate 3D Computer Animation
For those of you who have paid attention: I took the Screenwriting class in the Fall quarter then the Storyboard this quarter. The Layout and Visual Development class is the follow-up to the Storyboard class. This is the normal sequence of how an animation film is made. The Layout and Visual Development class will cover how a storyboard is turned into an actual film. It's going to be a lot of work and a lot of fun.
The Intermediate 3D Computer Animation class was the one that got cancelled this quarter. I took the Intro to 3D Computer Animation over the Summer which covered modeling in Maya. The intermediate class will cover animation in Maya. It's a very important skill for me to have so I plan to spend a lot of time on the class.
I'm not as sure of what the Basic Techniques of Animationn class is about. It sounds like a foundation class and is a requirement for the Advanced Certificate in Computer Animation. It's only offered in the Spring quarter which is why I'm taking it now.
Just these three classes will likely keep me pretty busy, but I'm looking at these other two classes which are also interesting to me:
Basic Digital Film/Video Production
Life Drawing
That's right! More nude models! Woo hoo!
Okay, I'm not a pervert, I just need more practice on drawing human figures. Really!
Actually after having drawn several different nude models, including men and women, young and old, I found myself rather comfortable around nudity. So if any of you feel like getting sketched in your birthday suit, just ask. But expect that if I like the sketches I might publish them here and on my website.
That might explain why Russ refuses to be my model...
