That's the funniest anecdote, EVER!

It's been more than two weeks since I posted an entry. I took the entire Memorial Day week off to eat BBQ (we replaced our puny table-top grill with a Weber Spirit 310), read, play with the kids and being generally useless and unproductive. It was GREAT. So of course once the week ended I felt the need to work even more and run even harder to make up for being a slacker. Something had to give so my little blog became a casualty.  But I plan to update it more consistently in the remaining month of June. The school quarter is wrapping up and my Half Marathon training is in full swing. There is no lack of subject, just time.

After my last stop-motion film I got a little bit burned out and decided to spend more time on 3D CGI work in Maya. The Intermediate 3D Animation course I'm taking is been taught by Michael Berenstein, a veteran in the industry who worked on feature films like Toy Story, Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. It's a great opportunity and I'm learning a lot from him on animating motions in Maya. For the Final I will be composing a reel of all the work I've done for the course, which I'll share when it's ready.

The following is a short clip that I did for the class. The character model and rig were provided to me which are free for non-commercial use. I found a free sound clip online then lip-synced the character and added actions. It was the project that I spent the most time on and learned the most from. It's painstaking and time-consuming despite how short the clip is. No wonder the feature films take hundreds of animators years to make!
