Sunday long run

Went out for my long run at the Los Gatos Creek trail this morning. A 9-mile loop from Campbell Park to the train station in Vasona Park. It was the first time that I ran alone on this trail and it was awesome. This is the place to find the super fit and good-looking runners, and the incredible stroller-pushing moms going at 9-mpm. Normally when I run with my group we chat along the way so I don't pay attention to the scenery as much. This time I was able to enjoy the wild life and nature around me. It's a nice change from running around my neighborhood and the Stanford Dish (which by the way has the second best looking group of runners around).

This is the longest distance I've ran so far and I really felt it afterwards. Tomorrow is rest/recovery day and then back on the road. One thing that I noticed during my run today was how easy it was to run the few hills even near the end when I was quite tired and sore. I'm attributing this to my weekly runs at the Dish which toughened me up for elevation changes. It feels good to see the difference that the training has made in my runs.

I ended up taking a nap in the afternoon and felt much better afterwards. I was probably also still recovering from yesterday's overly-sugared kid's birthday party and the board game party with my running group. We played Yahtzee, Texas Holdem, UNO and Crazy 8. I nearly lost my voice playing UNO. My competitive nature got the better of me and I'm afraid I've now got a reputation.
