It's the everyday little things that count

Once again I'm feeling under the weather and the infection that plagued me three week ago has returned. It's gloomy outside and the kids are going a little crazy. But I'm feeling great! You know why? It's because of THIS:

Ta-daa!

It's a 24-inch Widescreen HD monitor that Russ got me this morning. It replaces my old 19' 4:3 monitor, which he inherited. I now have much more room and better picture quality to work with. In the photo it's an animatic film I'm working on in Adobe Premiere. Previously I could only see part of the image and only four volume controls.

But the best part? It was completely unexpected. I knew Russ was going to get a new computer and monitor for himself. When he came back from Fry's he surprised me with the monitor saying that I needed it much more than he did and that he would take my old one. It was so sweet and thoughtful and selfless that it just brightened my day immediately. I have to wait till the kids are in bed but I can't wait to try it out with my film!

I'm really really so very very lucky.

  1. What software did you use to put the animation together? It looks like Adobe Elements. Is that right?

I've used it before, but it was a bit too buggy and slow for my tastes even though it had a good set of video effects. Eventually, I went with Magix Movie Edit Pro to make a short sci-fi flick. I was able to finish it while in trial mode and didn't have to shell out the cash. But, it's cheap and I'll probably end up buying something for a next flim (entry level prices). So, if you have recommendations, please pass them my way.

  2. I used Adobe Flash CS4 to put together the animation, then Adobe Premiere CS3 to combine the video and audio. I wouldn't recommend Premiere, it's a memory hog and kept freezing for minutes at a time. Flash also allows video and audio together but it didn't allow audio editing. Unfortunately I'm pretty new to this craft so I haven't had a chance to sample other software. I've heard there are open source software that have less (useless/bulky) features than Adobe and much better performance. I will check out Magix Movie Edit Pro!

    Thanks for reading my blog!
