My first animatic film. Yay! It's a Public Service Announcement; not sure if it's actually playable on broadcast television given the content. This was an idea I had for my 'Scriptwriting for Animation' class last quarter. I storyboarded it for my 'Animation Storyboard' class this quarter, then decided to add a sound track for my 'Sound for Animation' class. I had a lot of fun with it. There are definitely lots of room for improvement (which I've listed below), but overall I'm quite happy with it.
Animatic is essentially the stage between storyboard and full-fledge animation; or storyboard with the sound track synchronized to it. I added a lot more animation than what would be expected, but in doing so I had a better feel of what I wanted and how it could be done. See this for more information on Animatic.
Special thanks to Russ for providing the voice-over using his Darth Vader slash Authoritative Daddy voice. It sure beats my squeaky voice and definitely made me want to start neutering things.
Those of you that are still reading, here is the feedback from my professor on how I can improved the film:
1. Replace the black screen in the start with an action shot as television broadcasters don't like to have a blank screen. A suggestion is to have the camera track the curves of the bunny.
2. Introduce the male bunny earlier and show more back-and-forth between the seductive female bunny and the male bunny before the two get together. Draw out the initial seduction period.
3. Remove the jump shots from the bunny's tail to her full body view, and from the table-top view of the cage to the room-view of the cage. Jump shot is when the camera goes from one to another from the same angle on the same object. It's better to change the angle from shot to shot if the camera is on the same object.
4. The house can physically stretch out while it's bursting with bunnies.
5. The popping sounds need to be more realistic, like something been squeeze and then launched (i.e. birthing).
6. Two problems with the music track: I don't have copyright to use it, and any music with lyric is less desirable as it brings unintended elements into the film. In this case, the song is well known so viewers are likely to have pre-existing notion/feelings toward it.
7. Create a sound effect for the scenes where the bunnies are rapidly populating the world.
I have no idea what a world being populated by billions of bunnies should sound like. Do you?
Very cute. I watched it a few times. I feel that the sound track was great. The public knows (has a common feeling) the song and the mood you were setting. Other than that, I guess the Barry White song would be the same idea. The voice was perfect for the short! I had bunnies growing up. Not sure what kind of sound it would be but I know just one bunny can make lots of little poop. A billion of bunnies will have enough poop to cover the earth.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that imagery Serena! And what exactly does a poop-covered Earth sound like? :-)
